Spring Cleaning Your Kitchen
When it comes to spring cleaning, kitchens and bathrooms seem to be the rooms no one wants to touch – but it doesn’t have to be that way. If you follow these spring cleaning tips, you’ll have the kitchen sparkling in no time!
- Prep with a quick 15 minute kitchen clean up to clear clutter and make room for the actual spring cleaning. Put dishes in the dishwasher, clean up trash on counter tops, floor, cabinets, etc, put anything that doesn’t belong in the kitchen in a basket, wipe down the counters and cabinets, sweep and mop the floor, take out the trash. Now it’s time to get down to the detailed spring cleaning! Start by dusting and spot cleaning the walls paying special attention to places where people rest their hands. Check where appliances may have splattered dirt, grease, grime, and food on the walls. A sponge with warm water works fine. You may also want to try a magic eraser.
- Next, if you have framed pictures and photographs hanging on your wall, use a microfiber cloth to dust them. If needed, you can clean them with a damp cloth but be careful not to let any of the water seep into the frames or it will damage your photo.
- Take down blinds, drapes, etc to clean. Wash the windowsills, corners, both sides of the windows, and take out the screens and wash them before putting them back on.
- Apply oven cleaner. Make sure you open a window to properly vent the room.
- Next in the kitchen spring cleaning routine is the refrigerator! Throw out any expired food, half empty containers and anything in your fridge and freezer that you bought but never used. Take out the fridge shelves and wash them with warm water. Wash all the walls in the fridge and freezer before replacing the shelves.
- Now it’s time to move on to the oven. The over cleaner will take care of the inside, but what about the outside? Take off knobs, burners, burner covers, and spill catchers. Wipe down the entire stove. You may need to lift the surface of your oven to get at all the crumbs and spills. After, wipe down the toaster, blender, and other small appliances.
- Clean out your cabinets. Remove any mismatched lids and storage containers, dishes, pots, and pans you don’t use on a regular basis. Wipe down the insides of the cabinets before putting what you do use back.
- Wash the front of the dishwasher, inside of drawers, and sink. Adding a touch of lemon to your warm water will really help give it that fresh cleaned smell and feel.
- The final step in the spring cleaning kitchen routine is sweeping and mopping the floors. Try using a cloth to clean the floors on your hands and knees. If crawling on a hard floor isn’t an option, you can put cloths on your feet and push them around.
