Speed Cleaning Tips: Cleaning In Between Housekeeper Visits
Do you want to know a secret? My house isn’t this clean all by itself or because of my natural cleaning prowess. I use a maid service. I give all the credit in the world to the wonderful people at Royal Maid Services for keeping my house sparkling clean and chemical free. Still, no matter how wonderful the cleaning service is, unless they come every week, you’re going to need to do a little bit of cleaning yourself. I don’t mind cleaning – I just don’t really have the time. With the help of Royal Maid Services, I’ve developed some speed cleaning tips for in between visits. This way I don’t have to look around and go “eeew, must be time for Royal Maids to come back.”
By using this speed cleaning tips, I can be happy with my house…even between deep cleanings.
- Keep everything well picked-up. A neat and tidy house automatically looks clean. It doesn’t have to be spotless, but putting away the kids’ toys, making beds, putting laundry in the laundry basket, and making sure dishes are put away or in the dishwasher instead of on the counter or in the sink goes a long way.
- Wipe down kitchen and bathroom counters. Don’t worry about moving everything to clean underneath, but do keep the counters clean and shiny with a daily wipe down. You don’t even need to use any sort of cleaner. Clean water on a sponge or cloth works great too.
- Clean kitchen sink and appliances as needed. If last night’s spaghetti dinner splattered all over your stove top, wipe it up. If there are greasy fingerprints on your fridge, wipe them off. A little spot cleaning goes a long way into keeping your house looking clean.
- Wipe the spots off bathroom mirrors. Use Windex Wipes in each bathroom to take care of both mirrors and counters. Try keeping a package of Windex Wipes in your bathroom so you don’t have to go hunting for it when you need them.
- Sweep/vacuum floors. To keep your carpets looking fresh and new, you should vacuum at least once per week. Even using a small electric broom is better than not doing anything at all between visits.
- Squeegee shower doors after each shower. This takes literally 30 seconds to do and means no soap build- up on your shower doors. Most people take more time to comb their hair than clean their shower doors.
- Dust if you have to. If you have allergies or just can’t stand the sight of those dust bunnies multiplying getting ready to take over your house, dust every day or two. While there are many options out there, Royal Maids recommends investing in a lambswool duster. It does a great job of actually picking up the dust instead of just spreading it around. If you’re like me and dusting is the farthest thing from your mind, wait for your maid service to do it for you. I don’t mind dust bunnies. I think they’re rather cute.
Final Thoughts
Think of yourself and your maid service like a team. Don’t leave everything for them to do. That way you will save money too. You’re part of the team too so do your part by picking things up around the house, spot cleaning, and wiping down your shower door. Dusting? Well that’s up to you! Speed cleaning is just what it sounds like – speedy. Make some time every couple days to take pride in your home between maid service visits.
