Remove Odors With Baking Soda
There are many old-fashioned and low-cost cleaning products that are natural and safe for the home. Among those products, baking soda is one of the most versatile and effective products that you can use. If you are starting to go green with your cleaning regimen, then there is no better place to start than with baking soda.
Baking soda has a long history of use for a variety of uses around the home. Baking soday, also known as sodium bicarbonate, cooking soda, and bread soda, is derived from natural salts. It has been used in different forms and along with other natural occuring minerals for cleaning and cooking for thousands of years. The Ancient Egyptians used it (as a mixture called natron) as a soap-like cleaning substance.
Baking soda has a variety of uses, but in this quick post we will just mention one that is very commonly used. Baking soda is an excellent way to remove odors. Baking soda is slightly alkaline and has the effect of neutralizing acids. The bad smell of things going bad in your kitchen are often due to an increase in their acidity. Baking soda in the refrigerator absorbs the odors and keep the refrigerator smelling clean and fresh. Baking soda is also used as a deodorizer in the bathroom. Place it behind the toilet and do an excellent job of keeping any bad smell at bay.
Some products that claim to remove odors add additional smells to hide the unwanted smells. You could say they perfume the air. Baking soda does not add additional smells to the air. This is great for people who may suffer from alergies or have adverse reactions to perfumes and chemicals.
Best of all, baking soda is inexpensive. You can get baking soda in all sizes to fit different needs. For deodorizing, a small box of bakink soda that will eliminate odors for over a month costs under one dollar. You can’t beat that!
Some people don’t spend too much time picking out the eco-frinedly green products in the store because they think that they are expensive and that outweighs any small health benefit. Baking soda and some of the other products we will talk about in future posts show how wrong they are. You can go green and save, and we’ll show you how.
